Meet Your Mentor
My aim has been the same for years: become a world-class AI engineer. Every career move I've made has been measured against that.
I started as a software tester on a $500/month internship in the Netherlands. Taught myself to code, learned to ship real systems, and worked my way to Senior Engineer at GitHub.
Then I left GitHub. I joined an AI research lab as Member of Technical Staff, where I currently build products for secure AI monitoring.
The cohort draws directly from my real experience so you can make progress fast.
I run this special cohort with only a few people because hands-on work with me is what it takes to bring you to become a world-class AI engineer.

"The coaching played a huge part in my success. I focused on AI fundamentals, the certification path, and soft skills like professional writing. Having access to expert guidance gave me confidence during interviews and helped me feel I was on the right path.
I built my own platform (simple but functional) and deployed it on AWS. I used it in my portfolio and showcased it during interviews. The way complex topics were explained, especially the restaurant analogy for AI systems, really stuck with me. Focusing on doing the basics well was absolutely essential."

Frequently Asked Questions
How strong is Utrecht's AI job market in 2026?
Utrecht has emerged as the Netherlands' second-largest tech hub with significant AI activity. Utrecht University's AI department drives research commercialization, while major employers like Rabobank (one of the world's largest banks) and ASR Insurance run substantial AI teams. The gaming industry (including studios working on ML for game development) and health tech sector add diversity. While smaller than Amsterdam, Utrecht offers less competition and a more focused community where networking yields faster results.
Which companies hire AI engineers in Utrecht?
Key Utrecht AI employers include: Rabobank (ML for risk, fraud detection, customer analytics), ASR Insurance (predictive modeling, automation), Utrecht University and its spin-offs (research positions, NLP, computer vision), gaming companies like Guerrilla Games satellite teams, health tech firms in the Utrecht Science Park, and growing startups in the Jaarbeurs area. Many Amsterdam-headquartered companies also have Utrecht offices due to its central location and lower costs.
What are AI engineer salaries in Utrecht?
Utrecht AI salaries typically range from EUR 55,000-80,000 for mid-level engineers and EUR 80,000-110,000+ for senior roles in 2026. While slightly lower than peak Amsterdam salaries, the cost of living advantage (especially housing) means your purchasing power is often comparable or better. Banking and insurance sectors tend to pay at the higher end. Factor in the Dutch 30% ruling tax benefit if you're relocating internationally - it makes a significant difference.
Should I target Utrecht or Amsterdam for AI jobs?
Consider Utrecht if: you value quality of life (easier housing, less crowded, more affordable), you want to work in banking/finance AI (Rabobank HQ), you prefer a tight-knit tech community over a massive market, or you're interested in research-adjacent roles near Utrecht University. Utrecht is also just 25 minutes from Amsterdam by train, so you can access Amsterdam networking events while enjoying Utrecht living. Many senior AI professionals make exactly this choice.
Can I work in Utrecht AI roles without Dutch?
Yes, Utrecht's tech sector operates primarily in English, especially at international companies and university-connected organizations. Rabobank, ASR, and most tech companies use English as their working language for technical teams. However, learning basic Dutch accelerates networking and daily life. The Utrecht International Center and expat communities provide excellent support. For client-facing roles in smaller Dutch companies, some Dutch may eventually be expected.
What's the quality of life for AI engineers in Utrecht?
Utrecht consistently ranks as the Netherlands' most livable city. Key advantages: a beautiful historic center with canals, significantly easier housing market than Amsterdam, excellent cycling infrastructure, Utrecht Science Park campus with modern facilities, family-friendly with great schools, and central location connecting to all major Dutch cities in under an hour. The city attracts professionals who want serious careers without sacrificing lifestyle. Many engineers who start in Amsterdam relocate to Utrecht after a few years.
I've signed up for cohorts before and dropped out. How is this different?
It probably isn't, and you should hold the money. Most cohort dropouts are people who couldn't articulate what they were shipping when they signed up. That's why the consult exists, and why I turn down most applications. If we get on the call and you can't tell me what you'll have shipped at the end of week 8, I'll point you to the AI Native Engineer community until you can.
I'm not pivoting careers. I want to build a product. Does this still work?
Yes, the cohort works for people shipping their first serious AI system whether the goal is to land a senior role or to launch a product. The shipped system serves both equally well.
Do I need prior AI experience?
You need to be able to code in Python or TypeScript. Complete beginners can follow the classroom they get access to before the cohort sessions to come in well-prepared.
How much time will this take?
You'll spend 3 hours every Tuesday in the live session and roughly 3 hours of async work in between, for 8 weeks. The Tuesday session time is fixed.
What does it cost?
It's a four-figure investment that we discuss during the 30-minute consult, alongside whether the cohort is the right fit for your project.
Can I do this while working full-time?
Yes, most attendees do. The live session is one Tuesday a week and the async work fits around your existing schedule, as long as you can carve out roughly 6 hours a week.
I accept those who have the highest chance of success.
In the 30-minute call we discuss your goals and whether you are ready for the program.
